Padiham Glass

Flying High Drivers

The staff members here at Padiham Glass are not only a hard-working and dedicated bunch of people, but they’re also kind, generous and a little bit adventurous!

Matt Byrne, a member of our Transport team, recently jumped out of a plane to raise funds for the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund. Very early on a Saturday morning in November, Matt made the brave decision to jump (albeit with an instructor on his back!) from the maximum altitude allowed; at 15,000ft, it is the UK’s highest skydiving point! The tandem dive took place under the professional guidance of Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham near Lancaster.Matt Byrne4

When speaking to Matt about his reasons for doing the jump, he said that his partner, Joanne Silver, is the one who got him into it! “Joanne works for an independent healthcare provider called Care UK and, along with a colleague, she was doing the jump in aid of the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund,” said Matt. “I decided that I would tag along and do my bit for charity too.”

Unfortunately, the first attempt to do the dive was a failure as Matt recalled: “This is England after all and more specifically the Lake District, so what else could we expect but rain, wind and to have the jump called off!” However, the following week proved to be finer so on Saturday 23rd November 2014 the team got the all clear to take to the skies.

Matt has kindly donated one month’s wage to this fantastic cause and Padiham Glass is proud to have such selfless and courageous people within our organisation! Well Done Matt! Who will be next? Will it be You??
