Padiham Glass

35 Years and Counting

1980 was a significant year for many reasons. It was the year Ronald Reagan became US President. It was the year the world mourned the death of John Lennon. It was the year Pac-man the video was introduced to us. But it was also when Padiham Glass took its first steps to becoming the business it is today.

Thirty-five years later and the world has forgotten Reagan while Lennon’s legend lives on and the revival of retro gaming has seen a Pac-man resurgence. In contrast, Padiham Glass has never slowed down and in fact has done nothing but grow since the first premises were opened in an old mill building in Padiham, near Burnley.

To commemorate our 35 year milestone, we recently hosted a celebration day at Cheshire’s Carden Park Hotel and Spa, and invited a group of about 70 people which was made up of both customers and suppliers.

By offering our guests a choice of golf, outdoor activities or spa treatments, hopefully we succeeded in creating a relaxed and inclusive corporate event meaning guests could bring partners as well as colleagues. So often industry events are tailored to only the men so as a business which fosters equality amongst its staff, we wanted to incorporate that ethos into an external event.

Starting with a light breakfast after registration, guests got the opportunity to mingle and be introduced to our staff and other guests before each set of activities commenced. By lunchtime, everyone was getting stuck into their respective pursuits which included the golf, a Segway challenge, a treetop rope course and a bit of laser clay shooting.

Competition was fierce, but everyone was seen to be having a lot of fun and there was some good (if somewhat unrepeatable!) banter which kept the atmosphere very relaxed. Later in the evening after the sit-down meal and after-dinner speaker, prizes were awarded to the winning teams of golfers, and for those who partook in the ‘field’ games.

Ryan Johnson, MD of Emplas, enjoyed attending our 35th birthday. “I’ve been to lots of these industry events and this one was, by far, the most relaxed one I’ve ever been to,” he said.

Simon Anders, MD of TA Anders, also thoroughly enjoyed himself saying “It was a real pleasure to be the guest of such a nice group of people with a real sense of family, and the Clarkson family must feel very proud of what they have created.”

A great day was had by all and we would like to thank every single person who made the effort to attend. We had no cancellations, not even any ‘no-shows’ so we are incredibly grateful for everyone’s commitment to celebrating this event with us. Thanks also go to the many staff who had been involved in the organisation and delivery of this celebration. It is a day that will long be remembered as a roaring success!

Neil Webster, MD of Kingfisher Windows said that he enjoyed himself immensely.  “It was a fabulous day, the organisation by Vida was first class and they even managed to organise the weather!” he commented. “It was a great success and I’m sure everyone appreciated Padiham Glass’ efforts to put on a real celebration.”

Note: Padiham Glass would like to thank their main sponsors for the day – Saint Gobain UK, CENSolutions, Bostik, Hegla, Clear Thinking, Edgetech, RBS IF and Natwest.
